Jeffrey Brody is an Assistant Professor of Communications at California State University, Fullerton and a member of the Asian American Studies Program council at the University. He teaches a course on Vietnamese American experience and has written research papers and articles about Vietnamese community affairs. David DeVries is Professor of Communications at California State University Fullerton and a distinguished photographer. He is the author of a basic photography textbook and has exhibited his photographs throughout the United States and Europe. He curated an exhibit of historical photographs from the Vietnamese American community, Project 20, in 1995. This project commemorates the 25th anniversary of the arrival of Vietnamese in the United States. Project directors conducted workshops on documentary photograph at Orange County high schools, colleges and universities with significant Vietnamese populations to prepare students to make documentary photographs in the form of "A Day in the Life of Little Saigon." The resulting show consists of 110 photographic slides depicting all facets of Vietnamese immigrant life with a special focus on: work; daily life; culture; religion, social issues and celebrations. The project directors will discuss the origin and implementation of this community photojournalism project and suggest how NAFEA members can document other immigrant experiences. Work is in progress for a webpage about project. As soon as it becomes available, a link will be placed here to it.
